FAQ — About the two apps
Which app do I install on which device?
- On the parent's phone: install Prime Kids: Parent Helper (
com.parenthelper.parent). Android or iOS, both supported. - On the child's phone: install Prime Kids Child (
com.parenthelper.child). Android only. iOS support is on the long-term roadmap; we won't ship it until we can deliver the same protections with native Screen Time APIs.
Is Prime Kids free?
Yes. Both apps are free. There are no ads, no in-app purchases, no premium tier. If that ever changes we'll announce it 30 days in advance and we will never retroactively paywall features you were already using.
Why does the Child App need so many permissions?
Parental controls on Android require deep OS-level access: Usage Access to read screen-time stats, Device Admin to block apps and prevent uninstallation by the child, VPN Service to filter web content locally on the device, Location for safety features, Boot Receiver to restart automatically. Each one is explained in the in-app setup flow. You can skip any of them; the corresponding feature is then disabled, but the app continues to work for the features you did enable.
Is the Child App hidden on the child's device?
No. The Child App is fully visible — it has an icon in the launcher, a settings screen the child can open, and a screen showing what's being shared with the parent. We don't make hidden surveillance ware. The Device Admin permission prevents the child from uninstalling it (which is standard for parental-control software), but the child always knows it's there.
How does the web filter work? Are you reading everything my child sees?
No. The web filter is a local VPN that runs entirely on the child's device. It inspects the domain of each request (e.g., tiktok.com) against the rules the parent set, and either allows or blocks it. The content of pages is never read. The only things logged to our backend are domain names with block/allow decisions and timestamps. See section 3.4 of the privacy policy.
How do I pair the two apps?
In the Parent App: Settings » Children » Add child. We generate a six-digit pairing code. On the child's device, install the Child App and type the code on the welcome screen. Codes expire after 24 hours; if one expires you can generate a new one with one tap.
How do I add a second child?
In the Parent App, just repeat the pairing flow. Each child appears as a separate profile in your dashboard, with its own rules, history, and alerts.
Will Prime Kids work when the child's phone is offline?
The Child App's enforcement (screen time, app blocking, web filtering) continues to work offline using the most recent rules it received. Once the device reconnects, it syncs activity logs and pulls any rule changes the parent made. The Parent App, however, needs a network connection to show live data.
Which Android versions are supported?
Android 8.0 (Oreo, API 26) and newer for the Child App. The Parent App supports Android 8.0+ and iOS 14+.
What languages does Prime Kids support?
English and Mongolian at launch. Additional languages will follow as we have native speakers on the team to review each translation.
I forgot my password. What do I do?
Tap Forgot password on the sign-in screen of the Parent App. We'll email a reset link to the address associated with your account. The link expires after one hour. If the email doesn't arrive, check spam, or write to mergenfromrabbit@gmail.com.
Is Prime Kids safe for younger children?
Child profiles are created only by parents and require the parent's consent. Neither app shows advertising, has in-app purchases, or can be used to communicate with strangers. Our handling of children's data is described in section 7 of the privacy policy.
What if there's an emergency?
Always contact your local emergency services first (Mongolia: 102 police, 103 ambulance, 101 fire, or 105 unified emergency). Prime Kids is a monitoring tool — it is not a direct line to police, ambulance, or fire services.
